Saving lives with spay and neuter services
Loving Spay & Neuter Clinic
We are committed to reducing pet overpopulation and homelessness by providing low-cost spay/neuter services to dog and cat shelters and rescue organizations, and those doing trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNR) of community (feral) cats. We also offer spay/neuter services to private pet owners, although appointment availability is limited.
Our veterinarians have over 30 years of combined experience providing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter services for Richmond’s and surrounding areas’ most vulnerable animals.
What are Spay & Neuter services?
Spaying means the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus of a female cat or dog. Neutering is the removal of the testes of a male cat or dog. Spay/neuter surgeries are performed by licensed veterinarians while the pet is under anesthesia.
For the pet undergoing the spay/neuter procedure, we offer additional vaccinations, diagnostic testing, microchip insertion and registration, and preventive flea and tick medications. These added services/products can only be purchased for the pet on the day of surgery.

Who We Serve
-
Our Clinic partners with local and regional animal shelters and rescue organizations to provide spay/neuter services for pets awaiting adoption. Spayed/neutered pets are more likely to be successfully adopted. They tend to live longer and are less prone to troublesome behaviors such as aggression, house-soiling, wandering or spraying.
-
Thanks to generous donors and grant opportunities, our Clinic offers spay/neuter surgery and a required rabies vaccine at no cost to those that perform trap, neuter, vaccinate, return (TNVR) for Richmond’s and surrounding counties’ community (“feral”) cats. These cats will receive an ear tip and must be returned to the location where they were trapped.
-
Everyone should be able to access spay/neuter services for their pets, regardless of income. Thus, we do offer a limited number of low-cost surgery appointments to the general public each month.
Thanks to our generous supporters, we are able to offer high quality spay+neuter services at very reduced prices compared to private veterinarians. In order to cover increasing operating costs, our clinic will be increasing prices effective July 1, 2024. Updated prices will be as follows: Canine Spay $250, Canine Neuter $185, Feline Spay $120, Feline Neuter $60. (Services are free to pet owners that meet low-income requirements.)
Request an Appointment for Your Pet
The Loving Spay + Neuter Clinic prioritizes homeless pets, including pets currently in shelters or with rescue organizations, community (feral) cats, and pets from low-income households who might not otherwise be able to afford these services. We encourage you to take your pet to your regular veterinarian if you can so that we can help those in our community who do not have another option.
Our system is on a rolling calendar, so it is encouraged to check back for additional open appointments in the future. Please keep in mind that our clinic focuses primarily on spay/neuter appointments for area animal control shelters and rescue organizations. Check back often, as we do have cancelations. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at clinic@ral.org

Target "feral" cat communities
A community cat is an unowned, outdoor cat. Also called stray or feral cats, community cats are generally not used to being around people and can't live indoors. Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return is an effective method of preventing overpopulation of community cats.
